A generalization of the Solis–Wets method
In this paper we focus on the application of global stochastic optimization methods to extremum estimators. We propose a general stochastic method—the master method —which includes several stochastic optimization algorithms as a particular case. The proposed method is sufficiently general to include the Solis–Wets method, the improving hit-and-run algorithm, and a stochastic version of the zigz...
متن کاملIonic Liquid Ordering at an Oxide Surface†
The interaction of the ionic liquid [C4 C1 Im][BF4 ] with anatase TiO2 , a model photoanode material, has been studied using a combination of synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. The system is of interest as a model for fundamental electrolyte-electrode and dye-sensitized solar cells. The initial interaction involves degrad...
متن کاملInteraction and micellar behavior of aqueous mixtures of surface active ionic liquid and cationic surfactant: experimental and theoretical studies
The interaction between an ionic liquid (1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide or IL) and cationic surfactant (dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)) in aqueous solution has been investigated at various mole fractions and temperature 30 ˚C using experimental and theoretical methods. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of pure components and their binary mixtures, mixed micellar compositi...
متن کاملHow waves affect the distribution of particles that float on a liquid surface.
We study experimentally how waves affect the distribution of particles that float on a liquid surface. We show that clustering of small particles in a standing wave is a nonlinear effect with the clustering time decreasing as the square of the wave amplitude. In a set of random waves, we show that small floaters concentrate on a multifractal set with caustics.
متن کاملLiquid-Crystal-Enabled Active Plasmonics: A Review
Liquid crystals are a promising candidate for development of active plasmonics due to their large birefringence, low driving threshold, and versatile driving methods. We review recent progress on the interdisciplinary research field of liquid crystal based plasmonics. The research scope of this field is to build the next generation of reconfigurable plasmonic devices by combining liquid crystal...
